Heavy Metals Concentration in Sediments of South Brittany Waters, France: An Ecological Risk Assessment Approach

نویسندگان

چکیده

Distribution patterns of selected heavy metals content in sediments from the Bay Quiberon and Gulf Morbihan were studied to understand current contamination due urbanization mariculture activities coastal area. Therefore, a survey was conducted 196 collected characterized for using Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) after mix acid digestion process. The distribution maps concentrations produced as an isopleth map based on data interpolation by ArcGIS software application. association with adverse effects aquatic organisms determined classification sediment according quality guidelines. two approaches employed namely: direct comparison Sediment Quality Guidelines (SQGs) USEPA (United States Environmental Protection Agency) other numerical SQGs, threshold effect level/probable level, range low/effect medium. In order estimate multiple contaminations metals, mean-ERM-quotient calculated at each sampling point.

Geochemical Characteristics of Heavy Metals Concentration in Sediments of Quiberon Bay Waters, South Brittany, France

Cr, Co, Cu, Zn, Cd and Pb in the bottom sediments from 93 sites at Quiberon bay were analyzed by Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICPMS) after acid extraction. The ranges of the concentration in the sediments are as follows: 27.3 μg/g (Cr), 11.6 μg/g (Co), 13.8 μg/g (Cu), 42.0 μg/g (Zn), 0.08 μg/g (Cd) and 17.8 μg/g (Pb). Potential contamination of the bay was assessed by Igeo and ...

Assessment of the distribution, bioavailability and ecological risk assessment of heavy metals in the coastal sediments of Qeshm Island (Hormozgan)

Sediment samples were collected from 8 sites in the northern areas of Qeshm Island, Iran to determine the total and partial concentrations of heavy metals including copper (Cu), lead (Pb), nickel (Ni), cadmium (Cd), and Iron (Fe), in February 2016. A combination of nitric acid and perchloric acid was used to determine the total concentrations and sequential extraction method was used to analyze...

Ecological risk assessment of heavy metals from cement factory dust

Background: The release of metals from industrial factories is one of the most important sources of environmental pollution. The present study aimed to determine the concentration of heavy metals like cadmium (Cd), chromium (Cr), manganese (Mn), nickel (Ni), and lead (Pb) in dust around the cement factory. Methods: A total of 22 dust samples were collected from areas around the cement factory...

Ecological risk assessment of heavy metals in surface sediments of six major chinese freshwater lakes.

An overall and comparative ecological risk assessment of heavy metal pollution (including Cu, Zn, Pb, Cd, Hg, Cr, As, and Ni) in surface sediments was conducted for six major shallow freshwater lakes (Taihu Lake, Chaohu Lake, Nansihu Lake, Dongting Lake, Poyang Lake, and Hongze Lake) in China. A spatial database with 339 sediment samples was created through an extensive literature survey. Conse...

Distribution, sources and ecological risk assessment of heavy metals in surface sediments from Lake Taihu, China

The distribution, sources and ecological risk of heavy metals in surface sediments from Lake Taihu were studied. Results showed that the measured heavy metals had varied spatial distribution patterns, indicating that they had complex origins and controlling factors. Pearson’s correlation analysis revealed that the total phosphorus and the loss on ignition were positively correlated with the mea...
